Re-tooled for our 10th
Anniversary.
Likely the most screen accurate Boba Fett Gauntlet ever replicated. We say "likely", to be safe. There's no telling what may be floating around in this great big world. However, being based on one of only two known sets of screen castings in private hands, it's a pretty safe bet that it's a solid statement. Combined with some phenomenal new photo reference made available by our friends at OfficialPix, it makes for quite a bang-up project. Nothing "idealized" here.
Fett gauntlets have perplexed fans for many years because of their unique shapes. It's nearly impossible to sculpt a truly screen accurate pair of Fett gauntlets by hand. We say "nearly", because well lets face it, there's always a bigger fish. It was much easier with the Return of the Jedi Gauntlets (shown above) because reference for those are everywhere. But we've been at this for 10 years, without total satisfaction in regard to the Empire Strikes back style gauntlets. Two dimensional reference material simply wasn't enough. Many have tried. You know the rest.
Growing a pair digitally would be the next logical step. It would still be a digital recreation, with much room for human error. Fortunately, this isn't a consideration anymore. After 3 versions of sculpts, you grow tired of trying to get it right. No matter how close you think you are you eventually notice something you did wrong. There are some, who have tried far longer with much less success.
Discretion is key, as always. Contributors won't be discussed openly. But the pictures should speak for themselves. We can say, that these are not "direct" castings in a traditional sense. It's not our intent to mislead anyone for any reason. But it's the closest we've come to a personal best because of what has been contributed.
The pictures to the right and above show a "Vacuum Formed" left gauntlet shell. Most of Boba Fett's gauntlets were vacuum formed. No metal, no resin. There is only one that is known to be "nearly" positively identified as fiberglass and that is the left gauntlet show in the Return of the Jedi section above. So for the purposes of a true replica - vacuum forming was the only way to achieve the goal.
Of course, even though we're "vacuum form" proponents where screen accurate gauntlets are concerned, we made fiberglass counterparts for the statues we made for ourselves.
